He is a good Father always

For years I'd prayed and yearned for more children. I wanted so desperately to have a large family (even when we already had a large family). But my husband was not on the same page. He knew our hands were full, the stresses of this dispensation of the reality of living in an area (that we knew was home) where we both have to work outside of the home full time, it just wasn't realistic. And I have to tell you, this girl here is a dreamer and I love Jesus and believe Him for His provision big time. However, I will honestly say, for some time I was putting the Lord in my little box of wants and dreams of me being able to homeschool, have a huge family, make everything from scratch, be an artist and on and on, but not taking the time to seek Him and His dreams for us.

But I will tell you from the depths of my heart, my other prayer during that time was to be a good wife to my precious man and to be a good mom to our boys and that, I believe, was the small still voice I was actually listening to in the midst of my dreams. So the slow painful process began of letting go of dreams and "facing reality" and placing our kids in school and looking for a job. But what happened with that was I actually started to hear my husband, not just listen to him, but hear him, which in turn honored and loved him. And the the kids, God gave them teachers whom He picked and schools, although public and there were (and still are) conversations that need to happen on an on-going basis (and yes, some that grieve our hearts), that were small and have helped them grow and thrive academically and physically beyond our hopes.

And then the Lord blessed us financially with a full time job for me with benefits and retirement, a job that by earthly standards, is amazing. But I will say, after the initial excitement of going to work and getting a paycheck and learning (I love learning new things) the reality of being gone from home, learning a new routine, dealing with angry people, feeling the "guilt" of not doing everything at home and feeling like a failure kicked in. And it was over two years I struggled with the Lord, questioning Him, our choices, my husband's leadership (was he listening to the Lord??---most definitely yes, but I was not hearing that then). But the Lord pressed on, never leaving me, ever gracious and patient, continuing to lead and minster to my fearful heart and continually softening my husband's heart with great patience for me. And bit by bit, He has ministered and counseled my mind and heart.

What have I learned in the past almost three year, when forced to be quiet, to trust Him wholly and completely with my life? That I can. I will tell you honestly, He revealed a deep fear in my heart and lie in my mind, that at times I am still working through- that I am not enough. Yet His Truth is renewing my mind that I don't needs others approval for my value. We hear so often, and accept that saying, "I'm a people pleaser." But why? I stopped saying it. We need to speak life over ourselves. Instead I say who I am.
I am a daughter of the King.
I am saved by grace.
Greater is He that is me than he who is in the world.
My sins have been paid for by the shed blood of Christ on the Cross.
I am a new creation in Christ.
My past is my past and His mercies are new every morning.
His Word is Truth.
He says I am who He says I am.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made, created in His image.
He has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind.

I am a God pleaser - not a people pleaser.

Daily, I choose these truths. Not in pride, but humble gratitude and confidence in His truth and the great sacrifice He made for me. He deserves no less! He has given us the gift of life. The living and personal God! And when I pray, read His Word, repeat these things and praise Him, His peace floods my soul. I stop looking out and comparing and thank Him for the sweet gift of my life and the plans He has for our life and can rejoice for others. That is a precious gift that gives freedom. Knowing your cup, maybe appearing through earthly eyes, to be cracked earthenware or fine silver, in truth, it is yours in His hands. And anything in His hands is the finest of the finest!

All that had to be said so it could be understood the surprise the Lord heaped upon us last November with the addition of new jobs, was a miracle baby. I say miracle because it was a prayer I had finally set at His feet with joy and let go, praying every so often, but not in desperation, and thanking Him for our sweet ones and knowing my husband's heart and wanting to truly honor him. I will keep it real, it wasn't a jump for joy finding out, but I had peace (and still lots of prayer for my sweet man who sees our age and finances). But there was peace. And our precious Father topped it off when at the 20 week ultrasound, the tech looked at hubby and said, "Papa Bear, you are going to have a princess." Humbled mama with tears right here.

I want my life to bring Him glory. I am a wretch He saved from the pits, clothing me in white, and He continues to heap blessing upon us. He is patient and when we question, He patiently ministers to our hearts and waits for our obedience. It is a daily walk, but His love is repeated over and over again in His Word- His love is steadfast and He is faithful! He gives good gifts, by His standards, not the world's. And despite the hardships and sadness of this world, my heart can trust Him. He is a good good Father.

baby note 3

39 weeks 5 days

Hello sweet baby boy,

Today is the 22nd!  You were due 2 days ago but it seems you are following after your big brother here :)  I'm not in any hurry though.  God has perfect timing and it was such a joy to see your little amazing face on the ultrasound yesterday.  The tech said your not big and not small...my guess right now is 8 pounds something (just a guess though!)  You're not as active as a couple of weeks ago but of course your space is smaller!

Your brother here in the picture loves talking to you.  The Lord has chosen amazing big brothers for you!  They have so much to teach you...lots of good things and then of course the funny brother/boy things!  Of course these great things all come from your daddy :)

Pizza tonight sweet one,
love,

Mama, Daddy & brothers

PS-nesting quite a bit today!  oh, and I have LOVED Grandma Karen's potato salad this pregnancy-can't get enough!!!

baby note 2

38 weeks 6 days
Dear sweet little boy,

How funny!  This was last week and I'm even bigger today!  You are more active then your brothers (at least that I can remember!)  I'm feeling well, other than not sleeping the best at nights, unfortunately neither is your daddy :)  This past week was a crazy one-Daddy with his school work (my sweet boy, if you ever have a love of statistics, bless you!), finishing up some final cleanings for the summer season (praise the Lord!) and some exciting talks about God's plans and desires for our family.  All I can say, it was a LONG week but then the the weekend came and your brothers had football games, winning 2 out of 3 games (Pee-wee and Junior Varsity-awesome!), a peaceful church service and a birthday dinner for your Grandma Karen.  The Lord provided rest... truly a blessing.

So tomorrow begins the new week!  I really thought you would have arrived by now but God has His perfect timing and we see this :)  Grandma, Jerry, Great-Grandma and your aunt and uncle have bets going on your due date!  Tomorrow and then Thursday (your actual due date)  through Sunday are their guesses.  (Smile)  Yes, this is your mama's side of the family.  On another note, your grandparents here are leaving tomorrow for the week so...maybe you will wait? ;)

We love you sweet boy...and we have a name for you!  We can't wait to meet you!  So thankful for your life and the blessing of God choosing us to be your family.  Your sweet brother Spencer talks to you quite often, telling you his funny tales of the "wolf" (from the the 3 Little Pigs) and not to kick him when he puts his head on my belly.  And he kisses you good-night every night :)  (Melt my heart)
And then of course your biggest brother likes to poke my belly and tell me how big it is-boys! :)

Love you,
Mama, Daddy and brothers

PS-Your daddy was so sweet tonight to take your mama on a date.  In this tiny town, we ventured to the movies as it was a last minute thought and went to see the one movie they were playing.  I'm blessed to humbly say, we left after about half an hour.  Sounds funny but it was a gift to see that a movie that is rated 3.5 stars (out of 4) was a true example of what the "world" says is good and what our hearts, by the grace of God, says is not.  We left, happy to come home and thankful for changed hearts.  I'm so thankful for the daddy you have.  :)

baby note

36 weeks 4 days

Hello sweet one,

Your daddy and brothers and I are looking forward to meeting you!  You are due in less than 4 weeks but you could be here any day...or in 5 weeks if you're following after your latest brother!  (We did think seriously, you were arriving last Tuesday though; glad you decide to stay and grow some more inside!)  You are active, really LOW and making my belly hurt...of course it could have been that I just ate way too much soup tonight!  Cravings with you have been lemony, diet coke randomly, a serious aversion to coffee for the first 5-6 months, cookies, tuna and french fries and now an aversion to fried fish.  Yep, sounds really healthy!  Well, fortunately, I have not been eating these things on a regular basis and have enjoyed yogurt, fruit, water, lemonade and hummus!  I'm thankful this pregnancy has been good with only the recommended weight gain and I've been active with still working (even now...but your mama is one tired lady!)  We have the changing table set up, clothes washed (including several even from your oldest brother) and will hopefully set up your crib (you're the 5th and getting the first new crib!) tomorrow.  I'm having a hard time sleeping now, but strangely not during the day...hmmm.  Your daddy and brothers are busy doing school and we're looking forward to meeting you!  We're still trying to figure out what you're name is- praying!

Miss Ruth is having a baby shower for me this Sunday! I'm quite excited. Little things for you sweet one. :)

Love you sweet boy and so thankful the Lord has chosen us to be your family!

a heritage from the LORD...

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 127:3
hello sweet one at 8 weeks-what a precious surprise you were to daddy and I!
30 weeks.. excuse the background ;)

My how time is flying.  It is hard to believe our sweet boy will be here in 10 weeks.  It's funny, it seems like so far but I know it's close!  I chuckled today at my doctor's appointment as this sweet lady asked if this was a boy since I had three of the other boys with me to which I, of course said yes. She went onto inform this was her fifth girl!  I laughed that it was our fifth boy and we were raising up husbands for her girls :)

I have to admit, I really thought this one was going to be a girl (because we have silly thoughts, right?!) but as we got closer to finding out at the ultrasound it became the farthest from my mind.  Simply praying this sweet one would be healthy was the main concern.  And the gift of having another boy was truly that-a gift.  I've heard sad stories of women being terribly disappointed at not having a girl or "another" boy, but I consider it an honor and a privilege to be a boy mama.  The Lord has chosen my husband and I to train up these young men for Him.  It is for the Lord to choose and this is good :)  On the other side of things, it was good perspective for me to be in this situation. I'm hoping I will choose what I say to other expecting parents (especially with siblings around) more wisely, rejoicing in their precious addition regardless of gender or anything else.  Little ears are listening...our boys were and I didn't want them to think they were disappointments.  Maybe I'm over thinking it but kids internalize situations in different ways and I was guilty of our boys seeing their mama be overly excited for someone having a girl.  The Lord is gracious though.  He allowed me to see this, allowing conversation and love and affirmation to happen...oh, how I'm humbled daily (hourly!) by His mercies.

So we begin to enter into this new season...boy oh boy! :)

love it...trying to get a Christmas picture last December.

patiently waiting...most of the time :)

Our sweet boy is still cozy inside:) Monday they shall induce if he hasn't arrived yet. Again, our precious Lord has His perfect timing. Continued prayers would be greatly appreciated for good health for both of us and a joyful delivery:)

Praying all is well for everyone. My devotional right now is Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest. Oh, how it blesses me. The quiet time with the Lord, though it is only a few moments in the morning (in the bathroom of all places!) truly speaks to my heart and helps me to focus on Him and His word throughout the day...precious moments of prayer all day. I have consciously started praying for my husband and children first thing before praying for others. I hope that doesn't sound too awful, the Lord just put it upon my heart how I wasn't truly praying for them wholeheartedly and consistently...we sometimes forget the goodness the Lord has placed right in front of us. Just like praying and praising earnestly when things are "good", not just when they are bad and we're on our faces.

Praying for joy and peace and His mighty goodness, for we are upon Him, the Rock, our foundation, our mighty Fortress. May you see Him in your every step and in those around you, showing the fruit of the Spirit. In Jesus most precious name, Amen.

waiting patiently and trusting...

8 days....just waiting for our sweet boy to arrive. This is a first as our other three were 3 and 2 weeks early. However, we trust in the Lord, not in ourselves-praise the Lord! So the Lord is working on me with patience and trusting in Him...the best place to be :)

Please keep us in prayer for this upcoming delivery and our precious arrival and good health, ~thank you!

God bless!
